Let’s pick a
tune together!
We love to Jam
We jam every week. Come and join us!
Join the Circle
The NBCMS hosts an Acoustic Bluegrass jam session every Wednesday night at Pleasantview Community Hall, 10860 - 57 Avenue, in Edmonton. Jamming begins at 6:30 p.m.
Join the fun and expand your bluegrass repertoire.
Bluegrass 101 will be the first Wednesday of the month. The other Wednesdays of the month will be a "circle" jam that is not a slow-pitch jam.
The challenge of a successful jam is accommodating all the different levels of jammers. Bluegrass 101 will accommodate the newbies and some of the oldies depending on their interest. The other weeks we will get together and just to jam.
The Jam is a safe place to push yourself out of your comfort zone. We are there to support each other, but please be prepared for when your turn comes. You don't need to take a break on every song, so don't feel left out if you are not asked to take one. It is not a performance; it is a jam. Your turn is your opportunity to lead a song or not it is your choice. To ensure success please take time before you attend to plan the songs or tunes you want to share. Practice at home and then bring them to the jam.
Jam questions to ask yourself. What can I do to support the song? If you are unsure play quietly or don't play at all. The instrumentals go on for a long time so the question is. Do I need to take a break on every tune. How about combining breaks or have all the same instruments play at the once? We all need a place we enjoy and to nurture our bluegrass community that has supported us and our jam for 27 years.
We all want to be in a jam that makes us smile and say “now that was fun”!
Friendships
Many long term and deep friendships have grown from within the jam circle. When you’re surrounded by others who love music as much as you do, it’s easy to find new friends that will last a lifetime.
Over the years, countless bands have been formed because of the NBCMS, with many going on to perform at some of Canada’s largest festivals.
Bluegrass 101
Bluegrass 101 will be taking the summer off and resume in September. Bluegrass 101 will be held once a month on the first Wednesday. 6:30 - 7:30 pm.

Each month, Darcy & Jim will teach a new bluegrass standard tune in an easy-to-follow format that makes it fun to learn. They will cover the vocal parts and how all the instruments work together to make it sound great!
