The Spinney Brothers
From Nova Scotia’s Annapolis Valley, the Spinney Brothers are arguably the most successful bluegrass band Canada has produced. The group has charted numerous singles on the US bluegrass charts while garnering considerable airplay, and we are stoked to have this quartet perform at our first RiverCity Bluegrass Festival.
Brothers Allan and Rick Spinney debuted their band 35 years ago, displaying a tight duet vocal style recognized for its energy and distinctive sound. The cornerstone of the Spinney Brothers musical identity is the sound of traditional, southern-flavoured bluegrass music shaped by their personal lives and local heritage. By incorporating original material and drawing from various sources, the Spinney Brothers effortlessly intertwine the past with the present.
With their fresh and exciting treatment of bluegrass music, brother duet-singing, backed by supportive and complementary instrumentation, the Spinney Brothers tasteful and recognizable sound always entertains. Their performances at Blueberry ’24 was among the strongest presented, proving that after all these years The Spinney Brothers remain at the top of their game.
The Spinney Brothers are Allan (guitar and lead vocals), Rick (banjo and lead vocals), Gary Dalrymple (mandolin), and Terry Mumford (bass).
